Back … UP!

graphics-laptop-023397What a disasterous time I have had with my laptop. It died. Dead! It gobbled up my data and shutdown completely. My computer guy told me there was very little hope of retrieving the data but he mananged. I trust him and he never charges a fortune, so I know he was genuine with his concerns. It was a nail-biting time.

Sadly, I wrote two chapters the night before the dreadful day, and they were not backed up to my external drive. Memory kicked in as best it could and I rewrote them. The main draft was backed up to the external drive and once I got to grips with the new computer, I was happily writing again. The new computer is a pc. It is geared up to my writing needs and has a professional office package.

Silly me didn’t save the workshop outlines I created for the Just Write It! workshop (win a free place), I am attending in November. I am one of the writers helping others follow their dream, and hope I can entertain and help them achieve their goal. However, not saving was a blessing in disguise as I had new ideas, more interesting ones. So my days are now spent creating the plans and finishing the novel. Oh, and tweaking the novel cover. I am extra-careful with my back ups nowadays!

Thank you to all who have purchased my books, you keep me sane and in pocket money. I truly am lucky with the kind reviews, emails and messages I receive.

Seeing my books in a Suffolk (UK), library. Over the years I've written short stories in a variety of genres. I've also won a few poetry contests, my first was at the age of twelve, (a poem about the Bangladeshi war). I also won a children's short story competition where the prize was a first-aid box, I was so proud but my husband found it amusing because we owned two pharmacies. My articles have been published in magazines both in the UK and Cyprus. I am also featured in various places on-line. When I am not writing, I enjoy making greetings cards, Cross Stitch, fishing and the company of my little granddaughters.

Hi Glynis – well I’m glad some things were saved and you’re back in the techy side of living and writing once again … but as you say a new pair of eyes and some fresh thinking for the workshop outlines won’t be bad either … cheers Hilary

  4. Oh, I can’t tell you how sorry I am this happened to you, Glynis! When it happened to me a couple of years ago, I got Carbonite. But even so, it’s never quite the same once you lose your data…

  5. Oh no, that’s awful. Have you considered saving your work in the cloud as well Glynis? That way you still have it no matter what breaks. It’s how I back my stuff up.

  6. Sometimes a disaster is a blessing in disguise. That said, I bet you’ll be backing up things more frequently now. I’m so glad things are back on track.
